- The
web site has been improved considerably and we invite you
to visit this site to see the many useful add-on's. Thanks

project teams are proving to be most successful when they
form a 'Project Partnership' with the client's representatives
and other team members with the right skills for the project
needs.
- Over the past two years all our projects have been completed
on-time and within budget.
is currently involved with projects in 6 different centres
throughout southern Africa.
- Mary-Jane Morris is developing an Environmental Management
System for an international vehicle components manufacturer
which is to be ISO 14001 accredited.

During 2001
invested available profit back into the business in the form
of equipment and computer technology. We acquired a Grundfos
Pump for specialist groundwater sampling, a Hanna EC, pH and
temperature meter, two new computers for our office, which has
been networked, an uninterrupted power supply and a number of
soil and water quality field testing kits.

Ritchie Morris Pr Sci Nat, BSc Hons
Ritchie is the founder of
and is an Environmental hydrogeologist with over 16 years
of experience in the southern African region. Ritchie undertakes
work for industry, the public and individual private sector.
During 2001 Ritchie undertook several Technical and Peer
Reviews for both the private and public sector.
Mary-Jane Morris BSc Hons
Mary-Jane is an Environmental Management Specialist and
she joined the
team in January 2001. Previously Mary-Jane was with Deloitte
and Touche where she managed the Environmental Business
Services Group. Mary-Jane has extensive experience with
environmental matters throughout southern Africa.

Deven Naidoo of Geosure (Pty) Ltd undertaking field tests

The
and Geosure (PTY) Ltd Durban based Alliance Partnership has
been in place for over a year now. Deven Naidoo is the Managing
Director of Geosure and he has a BSc Honours in geology and
is registered as a Professional Natural Scientist.
and Geosure spent the 3rd and 4th of January 2002 assisting
a client with a site assessment in the Kwa-Zulu Natal hinterland.
A sure way to get-over the New Years celebrations.

An ISDN line has now been installed to our office and a new
computer and laptop added to the network. Our computers are
equipped with Norton Symantic anti-virus programmes which
are updated weekly. We also operate a tape streamer for backups,
have CD writing, DVD drivers plus scanning capabilities.

- Mary-Jane attended the VII World Wilderness Conference
held in Port Elizabeth towards the end of 2001.
- She has also recently attended a weeks course at UCT Summer
School on 'Jung and Nature', presented by Dr Ian Macallum.
This she found to be most thought provoking in terms of
the importance of the environment for human and society
well-being.
- Ritchie will be presenting a paper on Catchment Water
Pollution Abatement Plans at the 4th Urban Catchment Management
Symposium to be held on 9th February 2002 and hosted by
the Catchment Management Department of the City Of Cape
Town.

During 2001 Ritchie was requested to provide awareness training
to local government personnel on subsurface contamination
issues. The talks covered both technical and management issues
with an emphasis on the need for an environmental risk based
approach.

We mentioned in our previous Newsletter that Mary-Jane had
been working with an international group, AMEC Earth and Environmental,
on an Environmental Management Plan for mines on the Zambian
Copper Belt. The client, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), was pleased
with the team's performance and this contributed to the Project
Manager, Henri Letient, from AMEC, winning the company award
for this project.

Enhancing
nature's mechanisms can save client's money. During 2001
added to their bioremediation skills by successfully completing
the remediation of oil impacted soils at an industrial site.
Engineered biopiles were employed at this site and enabled
the client to save on disposal costs.
