1987 to 1990 Undertook the groundwater component for the Ciskei National Water Plan. Managed the field work activities which entailed liaison with local communities, geological mapping, magnetometer surveying, air photo interpretation, borehole siting, borehole drilling supervision and borehole design, supervision of test pumping programmes, data interpretation and report preparation.
1989 Development of the Graaff Reinet Wellfield. Undertook all fieldwork components comprising, geological mapping, magnetometer surveying, air photo interpretation, borehole siting and drilling supervision, test pumping, data interpretation, report preparation.
1989 Project Site Manager for development of the Fish River Casino Wellfield supply.
1989 to 1992 Development of groundwater supplies at Whittlesea, Hamburg, Jamestown, Sterkstroom, Knysna, Kenton-on-Sea, Grabouw, Cannon Rocks, Kei Mouth and many smaller towns throughout the Southern and Eastern Cape.
1993 to present Site assessment and remediation of contamination at over 30 petrol retail outlets entailing the following: interim risk reduction measures such as free phase product recovery, installation of bioventing systems, excavation and safe disposal of contaminated soil. Soil and groundwater sampling and analysis, installation of monitoring wells. Various clients.
1994 Project Manager for assessment of subsurface contamination at the Caltex Cape Town refinery. Installation of monitoring wells, soil and groundwater sampling and analysis. Comparison to international standards, reporting.
1995 January Attended a course titled, "Treatment technologies for soil and groundwater remediation" given by the National Groundwater Association of the United States in Atlanta, Georgia.
1995 Preliminary site assessment for a petroleum leak at a retail site in central Cape Town. Soil vapour surveying, mapping, reporting. Client - confidential.
1995 Preliminary site assessment of the AECI Somerset West facility. Project Manager. Development of Site Safety Protocols, Soil and Groundwater Sampling and Monitoring Protocols. Identification of problem areas. Planning for a detailed site assessment.
1996 Project Manager for development of an environmental Hazard Ranking Process for Shell SA (Pty) Ltd whereby their retail facilities could be prioritised according to environmental receptor risks. The process entailed the development of a number of GIS coverages containing biophysical data plus a coverage of towns in the country using groundwater.
1996 Site assessment and remediation of soil and groundwater at a metal plating facility in the Atlantis Industrial area. Involved borehole installation, soil and groundwater sampling and analysis, monitoring of groundwater quality, installation of a groundwater pump and treat system to remove chlorinated solvents, establishment of clean-up goals with the local regulatory authorities.
1996 Received the SRK Chairman's Award
1996 Preliminary and Detailed Site Assessment of soil and groundwater contamination at a plastic injection, coating and painting factory in the Atlantis Industrial area. Installation of multi-level monitoring wells, soil and groundwater sampling, analysis and reporting. Recommendations were made for remediation of the area, which included excavation and disposal of contaminated soil and a line of sparge and vent wells for groundwater treatment and hydraulic control over the plume.
1996 to 1997 Project Manager for a Detailed Site and Risk Assessment at the AECI Somerset West facility. Installation of >140 monitoring wells, including remote drilling in explosives (nitro-glycerine) areas, soil and groundwater sampling, laboratory analysis, formation of a data management system, data hazard and risk assessment, data interpretation, preparation of reports.
1997 Project Manager for the assessment of soil and groundwater Remediation Opportunities for the AECI Somerset West site. This site formed the second largest commercial explosives plant in the world and also comprised agrochemicals, paints, fertilizer, acids and vynide production.
1997 Project Manager for Site Assessment and Remediation of oil contaminated soils at a large ESKOM substation in the Northern Cape. Engineered biopiles were used to treat about 600 m3 of contaminated soil.
1997 Project Manager for environmental auditing of oil contamination at 14 used oil handling facilities in South Africa. Identification of problem areas/sites and provision of recommendations for clean-up.
1997 Undertook site assessment and clean-up at six ESKOM facilities in the Eastern Cape. Engineered biopile technology was employed at all these sites.
1998 & 1999 Compliance and liability (acquisition) audits at > 8 industrial facilities. Clients = confidential = international investors.
1999 Project manager for remediation of soil contamination at a used oil handling facility. Following detailed assessment, remediation techniques involved in situ landfarming and ex situ biopiling. A certain amount of excavation and disposal was also required.
1999 Assessment of mercury contamination of soils and groundwater at an industrial facility. The contamination had taken place some 50 years ago and had spread throughout the area. Soil with globules of elemental mercury was excavated and containerised for safe disposal. Client = confidential.
1999 Preliminary site assessment of five drum reconditioning sites in the Cape Town area. The identification of environmental liabilities. Client = the ROSE Foundation.
1998 - current Managed > 30 EIA's for new fuel service station developments and upgrades in terms of Sections 21, 22 and 26 of the Environment Conservation Act 73 of 1989
2000 Environmental review and assessment for a scrap metal collection operation. Client = confidential.
2000 Environmental assessment at a factory where contamination from a neighbouring metal plating facility had migrated subsurface and impacted the soil and groundwater. Current. Client  = confidential.
2000 Successfully undertook the EIA for a new bulk Liquid Propane Gas storage and dispensing facility in Gauteng. Client = JH Marsh and Assoc and Elf Gas.
2000 Commissioned to undertake an environmental audit and site assessment of a large foundry operation in Cape Town. Client = confidential.
2000 Undertook the assessment and remediation of impacted land at a fertilizer production facility for a proposed land release programme.  This project is currently in Phase III of the investigations. Client = Nitrogen Products (PTY) Ltd.
2000 Commissioned to undertake the annual environmental audit of a vehicle components manufacturing and metal plating facility. Client = TRW South Africa.
2000 Commissioned as part of a team to undertake the annual audit at 10 hydrocarbon storage and handling facilities throughout South Africa. Client = The ROSE Foundation.
2000 Commissioned to undertake an EIA for a new service station development in Sedgefield, Southern Cape. The environmental sensitivity of the area required careful consideration of the receptor environmental risks and necessary recommendations to manage the site. Client = confidential.
2000 Commissioned to undertake the EIA for a new service station in the Phillippi area of Cape Town. This development was approved by the provincial authorities.
2000 MEGA was appointed to undertake specialist review of hydrogeological issues and input to the environmental impact assessment for closure of the Swartklip Waste Site and establishment of a waste transfer station. Client = Common Ground Consulting.
2000 MEGA were commissioned to undertake the remediation of an oil contaminated site in Port Elizabeth using engineered biopiles. Four biopiles were established for this project. Client = The ROSE Foundation.
2001 MEGA was commissioned to assist an international consultancy from the UK with intrusive investigations at a factory in Maitland, Cape Town. Client = confidential.
2001 MEGA was appointed by FFS Refiners to undertake a Phase II Due Diligence and intrusive investigation of vacant land adjacent to their existing facility at Vissershok, Cape Town.
2001 Appointed by Protekon, the Engineering Group of Spoornet, to assist them with the bioremediation of some 500 m3 of diesel contaminated soil. A dual phase bioremediation programme comprising 'landfarming' and engineered biopiles was employed.
2001 MEGA was commissioned to undertake several EIA's for proposed new service stations at convenience stores within the Western Cape. Client = confidential.
2001 AECI Ltd appointed MEGA to assist them with a review of enviro-legal issues related to the management and remarketing of the Umbogintwini Industrial Complex.
2001 MEGA have been commissioned to undertake the bioremediation of an industrial site in Port Elizabeth. Chemicals of interest are used oils and the depth of impact over unpaved areas is up to 1 m below ground level. A dual phase bioremediation process will be used at the site. Project in progress. Client = ROSE Foundation.
2001 Kynoch Fertilizers and Feeds Pty Ltd appointed MEGA and their alliance partners of Geosure and M-GIS to undertake a detailed assessment of subsurface contamination conditions at their operating plants located within the Umbogintwini Industrial Complex. Project = current.
2001 MEGA was commissioned by Nitrogen Products (Pty) Ltd to undertake remediation comprising excavation, sorting and safe off-site disposal of contaminated land areas at their Milnerton Factory, Cape Town. Subsurface cut-off trenches are to be installed to intercept contaminated groundwater flow. Project = current.
2001 Kynoch Fertilizer appointed MEGA to undertake a detailed environmental assessment of their Kimberley Factory.
2001 Seven-Eleven Convenience Stores appointed MEGA to assist them with EIA's for the development of petrol retail outlets at twelve of their stores in the Cape area.
2001 MEGA was commissioned by TRW South Africa, a vehicle components manufacturer, to undertake the development and ISO 14001 accreditation of an Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for the production facility.
2001 AECI and Kynoch appointed MEGA to undertake an environmental review for assessment and management of environmental issues at their Potchefstroom factory. Current.
2001 DOW Chemicals and AECI jointly appointed MEGA to undertake an environmental review of past investigations on their respective and adjacent sites. The objective was to identify common environmental issues with a view to future management thereof. Recommendations on the way forward formed part of the scope of work.
